Steps to Prevent Fingernail Fungus


Fingernail fungus has been a difficult thing to treat in the past. Health care providers have prescribed a range of oral medications to treat the infection. These medications like Lamisil and Diflucan must be taken for a long duration and can cause side effects. These side effects can range from headaches, rashes to liver damage. Also, 20 percent of patients will contract fingernail fungus after stopping the medications.
Do not share clothes, towels, and washcloths. They may carry the fungus.
Nail clippers, shapers, files, polishes etc. may also contain the debris that is a house of fungus. If you wear or use them, you are contracting fingernail fungus.
You should take utmost care while cutting nails. Do not cut cuticles and ensure that you do not harm the skin underneath the nail and besides it. Any cut or wound will invite fungus.
You should keep your feet and hands dry and clean.
The fingernail fungus infection can get worse in people with low immunity. If you have other diseases, treat them first.
Nail polishes are said to contribute the growth of fungus and hence is not recommended. Wearing artificial nails and sharing nail polish is to be avoided.
